The New York Yankees enter the second half two games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the American League East but have a two-game lead for the first AL Wild Card spot.
The Yankees have a balanced team but are one of the several teams seeking a third base upgrade before the trade deadline.
Second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been New York’s third baseman a lot this year, but the Yankees moved him back to his natural position.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter named each seller’s top trade chips and their best potential landing spots, with the Yankees as the best landing spot for a two-time All-Star third baseman.
Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez has had a phenomenal season thus far and would solve a lot of problems for the Bronx Bombers.
Suárez, who turns 34-years-old today, slugged his way to his second All-Star Game this season.

Suárez has 31 home runs and 78 RBI while slashing .250/.320/.569 in 95 games.
“The D-backs exercised a $15 million club option on Suárez following a 30-homer, 3.1-WAR campaign last year, and he has been one of baseball’s most productive power hitters this season, posting a 142 OPS+ with 31 home runs and a NL-leading 78 RBI in 95 games,” wrote Reuter. “With Jazz Chisholm Jr. shifting back to second base after DJ LeMahieu was non-tendered, the hot corner is the most glaring hole for the Yankees. Oswald Peraza (122 PA, .243 BA, 79 OPS+) and Jorbit Vivas (55 PA, .149 BA, 41 OPS+) are currently the team’s top in-house options.”
Adding a power-bat to the middle of the lineup is always a focus of the Yankees, and while Suárez isn’t the best defender, teams aren’t going after him for his defensive prowess.
The Yankees would earn a huge leg-up on the Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox if they acquired Suárez.
