Matt Fitzpatrick majors timeline: Breaking down last major wins and complete history of finishes

Matt Fitzpatrick has quietly become one of the most consistent golfers in the world.

The Englishman has now played in every major since 2016, and he only has seven missed cuts in that span. While he does not have a ton of top 10 finishes, Fitzpatrick seems to always find himself with a chance to make a run over the weekend at majors.

That especially continued on Friday, as Fitzpatrick shot up to the top of the leaderboard at the 2025 British Open. A win a the tournament would not only add to his majors resume, but also continue to cement his place amongst the sport’s best players.

Here’s a look back at Fitzpatrick’s history in majors since becoming a professional.

Has Matt Fitzpatrick won a major?

Matt Fitzpatrick is a one-time major champion, as he was the U.S. Opne champion in 2022 at The Country Club. Fitzpatrick out-dueled Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris to earn a one-shot victory for his first major title at 27 years old.

After missing the cut in his first Masters appearance in 2014, Fitzpatrick has made 10 straight cuts at the event. However, his best finish was in 2016, when he finished tied for seventh in one of just two top-10 finishes at the year’s first major.

Of the four majors, Fitzpatick has had the most trouble at the PGA Championship, as he’s missed the cut in half of his appearances. However, the last two times he made the cut, Fitzpatrick finished top-five and top-eight, respectively, which are his two best finishes at the tournament.

The U.S. Open represents Fitzpatrick’s best major, culminating in his lone major victory at The Country Club in 2022. The Englishman was coming off a strong showing at the PGA Championship a month prior, and he beat some of the sport’s best at the historic course.

Overall, Fitpatrizk has just one missed cut at a U.S. Open, but the win is his only top-10 finish. He does have four top-20 results, though, all coming in a six-year span between 2018 and 2023.

Despite the British Open being his home major, Fitzpatrick has yet to finish in the top 20 of the event despite missing only two cuts. His best finish is tied for 21st in 2022, one of three straight top-30 finishes at The Open Championship.
