The 2024/25 campaign was a season of change for Newcastle United who were finally able to give their supporters a memorable day after decades of waiting.
It began with a memorable February night at Wembley, as Dan Burn and Alexander Isak scored the goals that drove Eddie Howe’s side to victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, giving the club a first major domestic trophy since 1955.
Back in the Premier League day job, Eddie Howe’s charges showed fight and resilience to pick up 66 points across the season – six more than the year before – and just enough to finish above Aston Villa on goal difference despite losing their final game.
That brings UEFA Champions League football back to St James’ Park, and with the Toon Army dreaming of more success, the club has already signed Anthony Elanga and Antonio Cordero to bolster Howe’s options.

Howe began by signing Antonio Cordero – a promising winger from Malaga’s academy – on a five-year deal, but the teenager is likely to go out on loan next season to gain regular first-team minutes.

That was followed swiftly by a big splash by bringing in Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest in a reported deal of £55m [$74m]
The Magpies are also reportedly closing in on Burnley’s James Trafford, after a long transfer pursuit, and Howe is also looking for a second striker, a right winger, and a young central defender to cover for Sven Botman, who remains sidelined.
Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini has emerged as a key target, but competition for his signature is growing.
