Series: Seattle Kraken offseason recap

In this series, we take a look at each team and see what they’ve done over the offseason. Next up is the Seattle Kraken.

Key additions: Mason Marchment, Frederick Gaudreau, Ryan Lindgren, Matt Murray

Seattle has added to their arsenal of middle 6 forwards with the additions of Mason Marchment and Freddy Gaudreau. Ryan Lindgren adds some depth to the defensive core. At the moment Matt Murray is 3rd on the goalie depth chart, but with Philip Grubauer ahead of him anything is possible.

Key subtractions: Andre Burakovsky, Michael Eyssimont, Joe Veleno, Ales Stezka

The Kraken got rid of the rich Andre Burakovsky contract in a trade with Chicago. In return they received Joe Veleno, who they proceeded to buy out. Otherwise, the Kraken have not lost much.

Highest draft pick: Jake O’Brien, 8th overall

Salary cap space: $11.1 million

Staff: The Kraken have made wholesale changes to their staff, starting at the top with former GM Ron Francis being promoted to President of Hockey Operations. Jason Botterill will be his replacement as GM. He has brought in Lane Lambert as their new head coach, replacing Dan Bylsma. Lambert was an associate coach with the Maple Leafs last season and was last head coach of the New York Islanders from 2022-2024. He has brought in Aaron Schneekloth and Chris Taylor as assistant coaches.

Other: Seattle still has its fair share of cap space to work with if they wish to make more moves this summer. The squad clearly has depth, but still appears to lack the top end star power necessary to make a serious playoff push at the moment.
