Yang Hansen flashes potential in Blazers Summer League debut

NBA first-round draft pick and Chinese prospect Yang Hansen played his first minutes in an NBA jersey Friday in Summer League action.

And he flashed some of the potential that made him the No. 16 overall pick in Portland’s 106-73 win.

The 7-foot-1, 260-pound big finished with 10 points (4-7 field, 1-3 three-point range, 3-4 free-throw line), 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 3 turnovers, 6 fouls in 24 minutes of action.

“Overall, I think Portland has got to be very happy with what they’ve seen tonight,” an announcer said. “And he’s got to be happy that he played well in front of such a supportive crowd.”

The mixed bag? Just minutes after Portland coach Chauncey Billups joined the broadcast and promoted his developing three-pointer, Hansen banked in a 3.

Hansen finished the half with 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers and 4 fouls.

But he wasn’t done – and continued to flash his skillset in the second half.

At the end of 3 quarters, Portland led 80-52 and Hansen had collected 10 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 2 turnovers and 5 fouls.
