Giants predicted to acquire $11.5 million slugger from Orioles

The San Francisco Giants have been one of Major League Baseball’s biggest surprises this season. After finishing 80-82 in 2024, they weren’t expected to accomplish much in 2025, even though they had signed Willy Adames to bolster their lineup.

However, they have performed well and even acquired Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox. But they still are going to need a little help on the offensive side.

There will be plenty of bats available in the coming weeks with the trade deadline approaching. San Francisco could use somebody that can play a little first base.

Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report predicts that San Francisco will acquire slugger Ryan O’Hearn from the Baltimore Orioles.

“O’Hearn could take over at first base, DH or do some combination of the two for Bob Melvin and the Giants without even having to switch colors. He could serve as the bridge to 2026, when top prospect Bryce Eldridge will likely be ready to take over at first base,” Kelly wrote.

O’Hearn is slashing .284/.382/.458 with 11 home runs, 32 RBI, a 1.8 WAR and an .840 OPS this season. But even with his recent success, he probably won’t cost too much.

This is why San Francisco would be wise to jump on the opportunity to acquire him. LaMonte Wade Jr. didn’t pan out as the team’s starting first baseman, so finding a replacement should be paramount.

O’Hearn could be the perfect candidate to help get them through the rest of 2025 and give them the bat they need to separate themselves from the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Wild Card race.

The slugger is an All-Star for the first time this year, and has been one of baseball’s most interesting stories. We’ll see if the Giants try to acquire him.
