The San Diego Padres are currently in playoff contention, sitting just a half-game back from the third National League Wild Card spot.
The NL West is still in reach, but the Los Angeles Dodgers still have a five-and-a-half game lead for first place despite dropping six straight games.
The Padres have a stacked team with star-power all over the diamond and on the pitching staff, but there’s one clear hole on San Diego’s roster: left field.
Left field has been a problem all season long for the Padres and they have been plugging in depth options to get by.
Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly devised 10 realistic trade ideas, including the Padres getting a massive upgrade in left field.
Texas Rangers right fielder Adolis García has gotten hot as of late and would make an immediate impact, sliding over to play left.

“While Jarren Duran has been a name linked with the Padres, Adolis García makes quite a bit of sense,” wrote Kelly. “He’s got 11 defensive runs saved in right field this year, and he would shift to left field if acquired by the Padres. He and Fernando Tatis Jr. would give San Diego two elite corner outfield defenders.”
García, 32, has had a rough last couple of seasons in terms of OPS, but the two-time All-Star has 25 or more home runs in three consecutive seasons and hit 39 homers in 2023.
García has 11 home runs and 53 RBI while slashing .231/.276/.389 in 89 games this season, and while the slash line doesn’t look great, he’s a power threat and a great defender.
Kelly thinks the Rangers could target prospect outfielder Kavares Tears (Padres No. 7) in return for García.
