Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs established himself as a superstar in 2024, but the 23-year-old plans to take his game to the next level in 2025 by getting more involved in the receiving game.
During his youth football camp this week, Gibbs told Tarohn Finley of The Detroit News that he is playing split out as a wide receiver more often this year, and admitted that he has to learn the formations as a receiver ahead of the season.
“I have to learn the formations from being split out. I’m getting split out a lot more than I was the last two years,” Gibbs said Thursday while hosting a youth football camp at Ford Field.
Gibbs playing more receiver this year would be absolutely electric and unlock his talents even more. The Alabama product posted 52 receptions for 517 yards and four touchdowns in the receiving game last year, but those numbers could see a huge boost if he plans to play out wide more in 2025.
Though Gibbs will be more involved in the pass game this season, he should also still be the engine of the rushing attack. The two-time Pro Bowler tallied 1,412 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024.
Gibbs expanding his game will only help the Lions be more versatile on offense. It will also help the star running back potentially reach 2,000 scrimmage yards and take an All-Pro leap in 2025.
