Rodrygo makes big Real Madrid decision after Club World Cup snub

Real Madrid are , Sporting News understands.

The Brazilian forward, who played a key role in several of Madrid’s Champions League triumphs, featured just once in the tournament, starting the opening match against Al Hilal, where he recorded an assist in a 65-minute appearance.

Since then, the 24-year-old was limited to brief cameos against Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, and was left out of the squad entirely for the games against Pachuca, Juventus and Paris St-Germain.

Madrid boss Xabi Alonso explained the decision after the 4-0 defeat to PSG, insisting there was “no other meaning” to Rodrygo’s absence.

“He didn’t play today due to match-day circumstances,” said Alonso.

“We wanted a different profile for the game. We haven’t made any decisions yet regarding the future in this World Cup.”

Rodrygo is under contract at the Bernabeu until 2028 and is understood to be fully focused on staying at the club.

Despite his limited role in recent weeks, there is no indication from Real Madrid’s management or coaching staff that he is being pushed towards the exit.

While the club has not publicly placed him on the market, it is understood that Rodrygo is no longer seen as central to Xabi Alonso’s plans. Madrid are open to cashing in on the 24-year-old, and several Premier League clubs have already made enquiries about a potential move.

The former Santos forward has made over 200 appearances for Madrid since joining in 2019, scoring key goals in Europe and earning a reputation as one of the club’s most dependable players in high-pressure moments.

However, with new arrivals increasing competition in the final third and Alonso favouring different tactical options, Rodrygo’s long-term role remains uncertain.

If Madrid were to consider a sale later this summer, a continued lack of game time could affect both his market value and the pool of potential buyers including Arsenal, who have expressed interest in the Brazilian via his representatives.

For now, though, the club’s position is unchanged and it’s expected that Rodrygo will fight for his place at the Bernabeu.
