The Detroit Tigers have one of baseball’s best teams this season. Sitting atop the American League and the AL Central, it’s no surprise that multiple Tigers players are heading to the 2025 All-Star Game.
Initially, Javier Baez, Riley Greene, Gleyber Torres, and Tarik Skubal earned All-Star nods. But Zack McKinstry also earned a spot as a replacement, and a few days after that, Major League Baseball made another incredible Tigers announcement.

MLB announced that Tigers starter Casey Mize has been added to the All-Star team for the American League, replacing Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet on the AL team’s active roster.
It’s an incredible accomplishment for Mize and the Tigers. It’s Detroit’s sixth All-Star, the most of any team in the Majors this season. It’s also Mize’s first in his career, and he’s more than earned the honor.
The 28-year-old has been on a tear this season. He has a 2.63 ERA through 15 starts. He has a 9-2 record, and through 85.1 innings pitched, Mize has 73 strikeouts and 21 walks.

It’s been the best season of his career by far, and it’s helped elevate the Tigers to the top team in the AL and top team in baseball overall this season.
With Mize set to hit free agency after the 2026 season, his performance and All-Star nod this season should go a long way toward improving his new deal he’ll sign in the future.
Detroit has six All-Stars this season, and Mize is more than deserving of a spot on the All-Star team. While he doesn’t qualify for a spot on the MLB leaderboards this season, if he did, he’d be tied for 12th overall in ERA on the year.
It’ll be a strong contingent heading down to Atlanta for the Tigers, with Mize joining five of his teammates in a well-deserved All-Star bid for the former first overall pick.
