The Green Bay Packers are carrying a lot of hype and hope into the upcoming season. The offense looks promising, and the most exciting addition is 2025 first-round pick Matthew Golden, who’s already made it clear that the team has its sights set on the Lombardi Trophy.
“Definitely want to go get that [Lombardi] trophy, man,” Golden told KPRC’s Aaron Wilson. “That’s the question mark we got in our team room is just filling in that blank. That’s the last thing we need in that team room and, for us, that’s all we talk about at practice is getting that trophy.”
On the defensive side, though, the Packers still have a key need: a pass rusher. One possible solution could be signing veteran Matthew Judon, who’s looking for a fresh start after a quiet stint with the Atlanta Falcons.
“The Atlanta Falcons attempted to upgrade their pass rush in 2024 by acquiring outside linebacker Matthew Judon in a trade with the New England Patriots. The team gave up a third-round pick for the veteran edge rusher, but he had minimal impact last season. The Falcons ranked 31st in the NFL with 31 defensive sacks recorded,” Falcons Wire’s Matt Urben wrote.
Judon has already acknowledged that a return to Atlanta is unlikely. And according to Dairyland Express’ Jovan Alford, taking a chance on the veteran could pay off for Green Bay.
“Even though the Packers struck gold last season with Javon Bullard and Evan Williams, they cannot depend on Sorrell and Oliver to be instant contributors from Day 1. Therefore, it would be best for them to bring in a veteran before training camp begins later this month, as they still don’t know what former first-round pick Lukas Van Ness is,” Alford wrote. “Given the current talent in the edge department, there’s nothing to lose by bringing in Judon. If he’s motivated and looking to prove that last year wasn’t his best, the Packers could end up getting a steal.”

Judon has been in the league for years, and after a disappointing 2024 season, he’ll be eager to prove he still has plenty left in the tank. Signing him could give the Packers a much-needed boost on defense — and possibly fill a key gap on a team with championship aspirations.
