Novak Djokovic makes announcement on Wimbledon retirement question after loss to Jannik Sinner

It was the obvious question to ask Novak Djokovic after his Wimbledon semifinal loss to Jannik Sinner on Friday.

“Novak, would you be sad if that was your last match on Centre Court?”

Djokovic acknowledged that, yes, he’d be sad, but then he threw in a key “but”:

“I’m not planning to finish my Wimbledon career today,” he said.

Djokovic spent a long portion of his press conference speaking about the struggles keeping his body in condition through a long Grand Slam tournament.

“I don’t think it’s bad fortune,” Djokovic said. “It’s just age. The wear & tear of the body, as much as I’m taking care of it… These guys are fit, young, sharp, & I feel like I’m going into the match with tank half empty.”

Sinner will meet Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final after their epic meeting at Roland Garros earlier this year.

Djokovic hasn’t been able to get past those two best players in the world of late, and he may never have that in him again.

But he plans to be back, and you wouldn’t want to ever bet against Djokovic.
