Series: Minnesota Wild offseason recap

In this series, we take a look at each team and see what they’ve done over the offseason. Next up is the Minnesota Wild.

Key additions: Vladimir Tarasenko, Nico Sturm, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Matt Kiersted

The Wild made an intriguing addition on the offensive front in Vlad Tarasenko. The Russian will look to bounce back with Minnesota after a tough season in Detroit. Former Wild and Stanley Cup champ with Florida Nico Sturm has been brought back in the fold. Minnesota’s attention will shift to their star player Kirill Kaprizov, who is now eligible for a contract extension. One would have to think that contract will make him amongst the richest in the league.

Key subtractions: Marc Andre Fleury, Justin Brazeau, Devin Shore, Brendan Gaunce, Travis Boyd, Jon Merrill, Declan Chisholm

Marc Andre Fleury has finally decided to call it a career, although not with teams reportedly trying to convince him to return. Otherwise, the Wild have not lost much of note yet.

Highest draft pick: Theodor Hallquisth, 52nd overall

Salary cap space: $10.1 million

Staff: The Wild will utilize the same staff next season with John Hynes returning for a 3rd season behind the bench.

Other: The future of Marco Rossi with the Minnesota Wild is still very much a topic of conversation. He has been listed as a prime offer sheet candidate and been on the Minnesota trade block. It feels inevitable that he is as good as gone, but maybe Minnesota finds a way to keep him.
