Paris Saint-Germain eliminated Real Madrid from the Club World Cup by defeating the Spanish giants in the semifinal on July 9.
The Parisians found the back of the net four times against Los Blancos, who were unable to open their scoring in the clash.
Fabian Ruiz scored a brace for PSG while Ousmane Dembele and Goncalo Ramos registered the other two goals to seal the victory over Real Madrid.
Speaking after the stellar win, PSG head coach Luis Enrique revealed the surge of support he has received from the fans of one of his former clubs, Barcelona, pointing out the significance of the match.
What did Luis Enrique say following PSG’s Club World Cup win over Real Madrid?
Enrique was appointed as the head coach of Barcelona in 2014, and the Spaniard led the club to win nine trophies, including two La Liga titles and a Champions League title in his three-season tenure at Camp Nou.
While addressing the press in his post-match conference, Enrique mentioned that his phone is filled with messages from Barcelona supporters and said,

“My phone is full of messages from Barcelona fans, which tells you about how big this game was. You go at 100% for everything this shirt represents and we know what Real Madrid are, what they were and what they will always be, how great they are,” as per The Guardian.
Enrique clarified that PSG did not ‘put the brakes on’ or tone down their stride against Real Madrid at any point in the game, and added,
“We didn’t put the brakes on but of course with the heat, with the final in three days’ time, with cramp and the risk of tiredness, you act. The first thing is the objective, which is to reach the final and compete. But at no point do you put the brakes on.”
Barcelona were not among the participants of this year’s Club World Cup, making Real Madrid’s run in the competition a point of the historic Spanish rivalry for the Catalans.
PSG are now headed to the Club World Cup final, where they will face Chelsea on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
