Bayern Munich suffered a major blow in their 2-0 defeat against PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Alongside defeat to a key European rival, the Bundesliga champions were also hit by Jamal Musiala’s injury on the stroke of halftime.
The 22-year-old Germany international slipped in an unfortunate collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, and as a result, he suffered a fractured fibula.
Bayern Munich have since confirmed he will undergo surgery and will remain out of action for several months.
After the game, there was a lot of criticism surrounding Donnarumma as fans, players and experts were divided over his attempt to grab the ball in front of Musiala.
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was extremely critical of the Italian with Luis Enrique and Donnarumma’s agent defending him.

Musiala has now uploaded a video on his personal Instagram account where he shared an update on his injury and delivered a strong message.
“The surgery went really well. I’m in good care. I want to say that there’s no one to blame for this. I think situations like this happen,” the 22-year-old said.
“Now I’m just going to use the next period of time to build up my strength and positivity again. I look forward to seeing you guys again.”
How will Bayern Munich manage without Musiala?
There were plenty of suggestions following Musiala’s injury as Lothar Matthaus urged Bayern to hand Thomas Muller a short-term contract.
However, that plan was quickly dropped by the Bayern board, and even Muller didn’t sound comfortable in signing such a contract.
The Bavarians have also stepped up their interest in Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku.
However, how much of it is due to Musiala’s absence remains to be seen, but they need attacking reinforcements as they are shorthanded in those positions.
