Steelers-Lions trade proposal gives Detroit an edge rusher, Pittsburgh a wide receiver

The Detroit Lions need an edge rusher and the Pittsburgh Steelers need a wide receiver, so how about a trade?

The idea was floated by Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan, who suggested a deal that sends T.J. Watt to the Lions in exchange for Jameson Williams and a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick.

The problem with this suggestion is that it would leave both teams short at the positions they’re subtracting from.

Pittsburgh does need another wide receiver, but one can make the argument that they need Watt way more, as elite edge rushers don’t grow on trees.

Meanwhile, the Lions need an impact edge rusher like Watt more than they need Williams, but the Alabama product is still very important to Detroit’s offense.

Ideally, both teams add to their current positions of need without sacrificing another important position like this trade does.

If this trade did go down, the Lions would be left in a better spot. Granted, there is no replacing Williams easily, but there are still some solid wideouts available in free agency that the Lions could bring in to help fill the void.

While the Lions could come close to replacing Williams with a signing, the Steelers would have zero shot of bringing in anyone close to as talented as Watt.

Of course, it’s possible Watt could hold out and not play, but the chances of that happening for an entire season are extremely slim.
