Rangers center retires after 12 NHL seasons due to knee injuries

Sometimes, professional athletes’ bodies just don’t allow them to continue.

That’s the case for veteran NHL center Riley Nash, who has hung up his skates due to a “variety of knee injuries,” he told Tyler Lowey of Castanet Kamloops.

Nash spent the past two seasons with the New York Rangers organization.

He played mostly in the AHL in 2023-24, along with a lone NHL game. He didn’t get on the ice at all in 2024-25 due to his injuries.

Nash was a first-round pick by the Oilers in 2007 out of Cornell.

He eventually made his NHL debut for Carolina four years later. He spent five seasons with the Hurricanes, then also played for the Bruins, Blue Jackets, Jets, Lightning and Coyotes.

In 628 NHL games, Nash had 63 goals, 113 assists, 320 blocks shots and 637 hits.

Now 36, the 6-foot-2 native of Alberta will move into the next chapter of his life, having made a very long career out of his hockey abilities and grit.
