The Washington Nationals just signed Luis Garcia.
And yes, it’s confusing, because the Nats’ starting second baseman is named Luis Garcia.
Let’s see if we can keep this straight.
The new Garcia is a 38-year old pitcher. He was released by the Dodgers on Friday. In 27.1 innings at the MLB level this season, Garcia had a 5.27 ERA.
The pitcher Garcia also spent a month on the injured list with an abductor strain.
Garcia has pitched in MLB for 13 seasons. He has appeared in games for the Phillies, Padres, Angels, Cardinals, Dodgers, Red Sox and Rangers.
Overall, Garcia has a 4.20 ERA at the MLB level and has struck out 8.5 batters per nine innings.

The Nationals traded for Garcia way back in 2009, but he never actually made the big leagues for Washington. He made his MLB debut for the Phillies in 2013 against the Nats.
Just don’t confuse him with the uber-talented second baseman by the same name.
One will be pitching, and one will be slugging. That should keep things in order enough.
