Terry McLaurin trade proposal sends Washington Commanders star to lowly AFC squad

The New York Jets revamped their coaching staff and front office this offseason, and their offense also saw a significant number of changes, as they released quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams early in free agency.

Since then, the Jets have signed Justin Fields to run their offense and have brought in veterans Josh Reynolds and Tyler Johnson, along with fourth-round pick Arian Smith, to fill out the wide receiver room behind Garrett Wilson.

With just weeks until the start of training camp, the Jets have $29.8 million in cap space (per Over the Cap), so they could look to add another talented wide receiver to help Fields in his first year with the team.

Interestingly, Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick recently listed New York as one of the best landing spots for wide receiver Terry McLaurin in a trade.

“General manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn are trying to turn over a new leaf in New York, and what better way to do so than to get your new quarterback in Justin Fields a second high-volume target?” Kadlick wrote.

“Should the Jets pull off a trade for McLaurin, they’d pair him with young star Garrett Wilson—who has totaled 1,000+ yards in each of his first three seasons in the NFL. He would also bring some much-needed experience to a team that’s been longing for an adult in the room.

“Oh yeah, and the trio of Fields, Wilson, and McLaurin are all former Ohio State Buckeyes—so that’s fun, too.”

McLaurin, 29, was a national champion at Ohio State before Washington took him in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. In his six seasons, he’s played in 97 out of 100 possible games, including all 68 in the last four years. He’s caught 460 passes for 6,379 yards and 38 touchdowns on his way to two Pro Bowls and an All-Pro selection.

At this point the Jets will likely be fighting for the second or third spot in the AFC East, but bringing in McLaurin could turn them into legitimate postseason contenders and give them a real shot to push the Buffalo Bills for the division.
