The New York Mets could be in the market for an outfielder near the trade deadline. However, one option may not be in the cards for the team, as he has made it known he will not waive his no-trade clause for the Mets.
Tyrone Taylor has been the Mets’ primary center fielder this year. However, his offensive ceiling is not very high, and the Mets may want to find a better option at the trade deadline. Jeff McNeil has started getting more looks in the outfield, but he is more valuable to fill the need in the Mets’ infield.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Pirates are taking calls on everyone except Paul Skenes and Oneil Cruz. Bryan Reynolds could be a great addition to the Mets’ outfield. They may have to move Brandon Nimmo to center field to play Reynolds in the corner, but he would certainly bring some upside to the team.
However, the Mets will need to pump the brakes on any potential trade for Reynolds. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Noah Hiles, Bryan Reynolds will not approve a trade to the Mets or some other contenders.
“A few national reports have stated that Bryan Reynolds is also receiving some trade interest,” wrote Hiles. “Moving Reynolds, however, might not be as easy as others. Reynolds, who is under team control through the 2031 season, features a six-team no-trade clause in his contract, meaning he has made it clear he would not approve a deal to certain locations. Those six teams, per sources, are the (New York) Yankees, (New York) Mets, (Toronto) Blue Jays, (Los Angeles) Dodgers, (San Francisco) Giants and (San Diego) Padres.”

All of the teams that Reynolds would reportedly not waive his no-trade clause for are teams with postseason aspirations. The Pirates are set up to be sellers and could get a haul for Reynolds.
He signed an eight-year, $106 million deal with the Pirates in 2023. He is a two-time All-Star and has plenty of club control. He is having a down year at the plate, but was an All-Star as recently as last season. He has a .808 career OPS and 132 home runs. He has the potential to be a massive upgrade for the Mets.
