Eddie Howe moves behind the scenes to block exit of Newcastle United star

Eddie Howe is working hard behind the scenes to stop Tino Livramento from being prised away by Manchester City.

The 22-year-old full-back is attracting strong interest from City with Pep Guardiola eyeing him as a long-term successor to Kyle Walker who recently signed for Burnley.

However, Newcastle United are refusing to back down with the Magpies setting an £80m [$109m] asking price for Livramento, looking to ward off any approach from the eight-time Premier League champions.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, Pete O’Rourke made Newcastle’s stance clear: “It’s a difficult deal to do for City,” he said.

“It’s no surprise he is pretty high up on Man City’s wanted list for right-back.”

Livramento had a breakout season under Howe, excelled at right-back and slotted in at left-back when Lewis Hall suffered a serious ankle injury.

He was also a standout performer in England’s Under-21 Euros win in Slovakia, further boosting his stock.

Despite that, O’Rourke insists Newcastle are digging in. “I don’t think Newcastle will be entertaining any offers for him unless it’s astronomical money,” he added.

“Eddie Howe will be doing everything he can to keep hold of Livramento. They don’t want to lose any of his best players, and Livramento is definitely one of those.”

The club is also in talks to extend striker Alexander Isak’s deal, which further reinforces Howe’s intent to protect his core squad as the new season approaches.
