Gold Cup final on display with sellout crowd at NRG Stadium

CONCACAF announced Sunday that the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup Final between the United States and Mexico at Houston’s NRG Stadium is officially sold out. More than 70,000 fans packed the Houston Texans’ stadium for the highly anticipated match on Sunday evening.

This year’s final marks the first time in tournament history that the Gold Cup championship game is being held in Texas, adding another milestone to the event’s legacy. The sellout follows a dramatic knockout stage that drew over 170,000 fans to sold-out semifinals at Energizer Park in St. Louis and Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, as well as quarterfinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale and U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

The 2025 Gold Cup concludes Sunday night, capping a tournament that featured 31 matches across 14 stadiums in 11 U.S. and Canadian cities. Average attendance for the tournament is nearing 25,000 per match, with knockout stage games averaging almost 50,000 fans.

The final renews the region’s most storied soccer rivalry. Mexico, the all-time Gold Cup leader with nine titles, faces a U.S. squad seeking its eighth championship. The two sides have met in the final nine times, with Mexico winning five of the previous eight encounters. The U.S. advanced to the final after a 2-1 semifinal win over Guatemala, powered by a brace from midfielder Diego Luna. Mexico reached the title match after a 1-0 victory against Honduras.

Concacaf officials expressed gratitude to supporters, highlighting the passion and energy fans have brought to every match. “Their unwavering support has created an unforgettable atmosphere at every match, showcasing the unity and pride of our region,” the organization said in a statement.

The Gold Cup final takes place less than a year before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and neighboring Canada. NRG Stadium and AT&T Stadium in Dallas will serve as venues for the World Cup.
