Dodgers predicted to cut ties with Dustin May in trade for $70 million All-Star

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ infield suffered a major blow when Max Muncy suffered a knee injury. The Dodgers could look to trade for a replacement.

Muncy could miss around six weeks. Although he is expected to return, there is no telling if he will be 100 percent for a postseason run. The Dodgers are not the kind of team to bank a World Series run on hope, and could swing a trade to replace Muncy. ClutchPoints Zachary Howell predicted the Dodgers would make this trade with the Colorado Rockies to land Ryan McMahon:

  • Dodgers receive: 3B Ryan McMahon
  • Rockies receive: SP Dustin May

The Dodgers’ rotation is about to get some reinforcements. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are expected to return soon and Shohei Ohtani is building up right now. May will be a free agent after the season and could become a trade chip. Meanwhile, McMahon would be more than a rental for the Dodgers.

McMahon signed a six-year, $70 million deal in 2022. He was an All-Star last season and has hit at least 20 home runs in every full season since 2019. He hit nine home runs during the pandemic-shortened season. Muncy has a $10 million club option next year, but adding McMahon could free the Dodgers to let him go or trade him.

Muncy has been playing great as of late, however. He is slashing .287/.414/.575 since April 30 and has 13 home runs. Losing him is a massive blow to the Dodgers’ lineup. Adding McMahon would give them insurance in case Muncy is not the same after his injury, or if there are any setbacks in his recovery.
