Manchester United unveiled Diego León as their second summer signing. Ruben Amorim is looking to bolster several positions, and he is sticking with the INEOS philosophy of adding younger players.
The 18-year-old was signed from Cerro Porteño in Paraguay. The youngster played 33 senior games for the club.
United said in a statement, “As an emerging talent, [he] will be supported by our first team and the Academy whilst he settles into life in Manchester.”
León has already endeared himself to Manchester United fans, and he has high expectations for himself.
What did León say about joining Man United?
Before León flew to Manchester, he had a message for the team and fans. Matías Cuevas captured León’s response to joining United.

The Paraguayan said, “Everyone thinks I’ll go out on loan, but I don’t have that mentality… I’m going to kill it in pre-season, and in one or two games, I’ll be playing with them.”
After the announcement, León posted a series of photos on Instagram and wrote a message, saying, “I promise to give my best every day, in training, on the pitch, and off it.
“Thank you to the club for the trust and to my family for always being by my side. I hope to bring a lot of joy to all the Manchester United fans and everyone who supports me on this journey. One more goal achieved. From Paraguay to the world. Let’s go Red Devils!”
León is still subject to registration, but his contract is set with United. The 18-year-old’s fee comes to around £7m, including add-ons.
León will hope to gain important experience in the preseason, as Manchester United play their first friendly on July 19 against Leeds United. The youngster also has the chance to feature in the Premier League Summer Series at the end of July.
