The San Francisco 49ers have one of the best-left tackles in the NFL in Trent Williams, but Williams will turn 37 before the start of the season.
Williams only appeared in 10 games last season due to injuries, and this could be his last year in the NFL.
Playing 15 years for a left tackle is a lot and does a good amount of damage to the body, so the 49ers could be looking to find their new left tackle next season.
Matt Miller from ESPN thinks the 49ers could take Oregon left tackle Isaiah World in next year’s NFL Draft.
“Many thought the 49ers would draft the eventual successor to All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams, who turns 37 in July. But San Francisco passed on tackles in the 2025 draft, so that need still exists,” Miller wrote. “World transferred to Oregon after dominating at Nevada, and the 6-foot-8, 310-pounder has all-world potential with his elite reach, elite agility and experience. The 49ers need to get younger at core positions, and left tackle should be atop their wish list.”

World could be an excellent option for the 49ers, and he would be able to protect quarterback Brock Purdy for a handful of years.
Even if Williams plays in 2026, a player like World would be a good thing for the 49ers, as he could potentially sit for a year and learn from Williams how to play in the NFL.
