Ex-Cowboys $100 million player could sign with cross-division rival

The Dallas Cowboys made a significant trade in May when the team acquired Pittsburgh Steelers receiver George Pickens.

Dallas has had some great receivers over the past few years with CeeDee Lamb, but before Lamb landed with the Cowboys, the team had Amari Cooper.

Cooper was traded to the Cowboys during the 2018 season by the Oakland Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders) and spent four years with Dallas.

The 10-year veteran receiver is now a free agent, and Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports thinks Cooper could head back to play for the Raiders this season.

“The Raiders certainly made offense a priority this offseason, acquiring Geno Smith via trade, then spending a first-round pick on Ashton Jeanty, giving the silver and black two cornerstone playmakers when you include second-year tight end Brock Purdy,” Benjamin wrote. “The one area that could still use veteran help is wide receiver, and Cooper knows the franchise well, beginning his career with the Raiders and briefly working alongside current quarterbacks coach Greg Olson. If they’re serious about competing immediately under new head man Pete Carroll, it makes sense they’d use some of their excess salary cap space on a pass target.”

Cooper is coming off a five-year, $100 million contract and would love to play another season in the NFL.

Cooper is 31, so his best years are behind him, but he could still be a nice addition to the Raiders, who are looking for veteran help.
