According to insider Frank Seravalli, Pius Suter is on his way to the St. Louis Blues. The contract is reportedly a 2 year deal worth $4 million annually for a total of $8 million over the course of the deal.
This is one of the last big names of note off the board in day 2 of free agency. The Blues land a coveted forward who had a career year on a Vancouver Canucks squad that struggled last season. The 29 year old recorded 25 goals and 21 assists for 46 points in 81 games. He has totaled 39 goals and 36 assists for 75 points in 148 games during his 2 year tenure with the Canucks.
Over the course of his 5 year career, the undrafted Swiss native has produced 82 goals and 80 assists for 162 points in 364 games split between the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks.
This move comes after the Blues bought out defenseman Nick Leddy today, a cap clearing move to make the room for a deal like this.
Suter will likely slot in a middle 6 role for this Blues team that looks to take another step forward next year after making a late season push that resulted in a surprise playoff berth last year after the Blues hired top coach Jim Montgomery.
With Suter off the board, the free agent market continues to sell out. It will be interesting to see where the top available player currently left Nikolaj Ehlers lands.
