Bruins get role player in deal with Oilers

The Boston Bruins’ depth just got stronger.

In a deal with the Edmonton Oilers, the Bruins are seconding a 2027 second-round pick in exchange for Edmonton Oilers right winger Viktor Arvidsson, according to Hockey Insider Frank Seravalli in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Trade details, per sources:

To #NHLBruins:

Viktor Arvidsson

To #Oilers:

2027 5th Round Pick.”

Seravalli also noted that there is no salary retained on Arvidsson.

The deal helps Boston find a roleplayer that could play on Boston’s second or third line. In his lone season with the Oilers, Arvidsson recorded 27 points in the regular season with 15 goals and 12 assists as he contributed to Edmonton’s third place finish in the Pacific division. In the postseason, he appeared in 15 of the Oilers postseason games where he logged two goals and five assists.

Arvidsson has been playing in the NHL since the 2014-2015 season where he played for the Nashville Predators until 2021. He finished with 61 points in each season from 2016-2018, which helped the Predators make their first appearance in a Stanley Cup FInals against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2016-2017 season.

Arvidsson also played three seasons for the Los Angeles Kings where he finished with 49 and 59 points in each of his first two seasons in LA. During his time as a King, Arvidsson helped his team get to the playoffs in two of his three seasons.

The Bruins are attempting to pick up the pieces after a season where they traded away their star in Brad Marchand and finished 15th in the East.
