Corey Perry signs with playoff contender

Corey Perry has a new home.

According to Senior NHL Columnist Pierre LeBrun, Perry has signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Kings.

“One year deal for Perry in LA, salary plus bonuses totals around $3.5M,” LeBrun said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Perry has had a long-standing career in the NHL that started playing for the Anaheim Ducks from 2005-2019.

Most recently, Perry was a key role player for the Edmonton Oilers for the past two seasons. Perry helped Edmonton reach back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers, where the Oilers lost both finals series against the Panthers.

Perry scored 30 points in the 2024-2025 regular season on 19 goals and 11 assists in 81 games. In the Oilers second consecutive run to the finals, Perry put up 14 points in 22 games.

Perry has had stints with the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning. Perry has made it to at least one Stanley Cup Final with every team he has played for. In six appearances in the finals, Perry has a 1-5 record. The lone championship in his career came with the Ducks in 2007.

Perry’s departure from Edmonton comes after there were reports that he was open to returning to the reigning back-to-back Western Conference Champions, but the two sides evidently could not come to an agreement.

Arriving in LA makes the Kings a strong playoff contender. The Kings have lost in the first round of the playoffs for four consecutive years.
