Flyers sign reliable two-way forward to one-year deal

The Philadelphia Flyers are on the right path.

According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers have signed forward Christian Dvorak to a one-year, $5.4 million deal.

It has already been an exciting offseason for Philadelphia after trading for Trevor Zegras and adding forwards Porter Martone (6th overall) and Jack Nesbitt (12th overall) in the first round of the draft.

This is suddenly a solid-looking group with Travis Konecny, Sean Couturier, Matvei Michkov, Travis Sanheim, and Jamie Drysdale leading the way.

Dvorak should help the Flyers in their quest to reach the postseason for the first time since 2020. He plays a solid, 200-foot game, and while he is not a standout scorer (12 goals and 31 points for the Montreal Canadiens in 2024-25), his defensive prowess, faceoff abilities, and center/wing versatility will make life easier for new head coach Brad Shaw.

The term is less than ideal, as Dvorak, 29, fits this rebuilding timeline. However, this prove-it deal should also bring out the best in him as he searches for a long-term contract next summer.

Dvorak should fight for 2C minutes early on, but is probably better-suited for a third line role where he can focus on shutting down opposing forwards and wearing down defensemen on the forecheck.

General manager Danny Brière has struggled to attract top talent to Philadelphia, and the Dvorak signing bodes well for their future. Now, the Flyers can turn their attention to shoring up the defense and goaltending (although they did just sign former Calgary Flames backup Daniel Vladař in net).
