Dodgers 2-for-1 trade pitch brings pitcher All-Star to LA after Rōki Sasaki news

The Los Angeles Dodgers rotation is dealing with some key injuries. They could explore the trade market to find some more rotation help in order to ensure a deep postseason run.

Shohei Ohtani is still building up to being a traditional starter. Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Tony Gonsolin and Rōki Sasaki are all on the injured list right now. Snell and Glasnow are on the comeback track, but the Dodgers are unclear as to what the next steps are for Sasaki, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Jack Harris. There is still no date for his return.

Gonsolin is also on the 60-day injured list. The Dodgers traded for Jack Flaherty last season to address injuries in their rotation. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter proposed this trade that would bring Seth Lugo to the team from the Kansas City Royals:

  • Dodgers receive: RHP Seth Lugo
  • Royals receive: OF Eduardo Quintero (Dodgers’ No. 5 prospect) and OF Mike Sirota (Dodgers’ No. 17 prospect)

Lugo will be a free agent after the season and is having one of the best years of his career. He has a 2.74 ERA through 17 starts and has recorded 76 strikeouts. He was an All-Star last season and finished as the runner-up in the American League Cy Young Award race.

The Royals are 39-46, entering play on Tuesday. They could be sellers at the trade deadline if they do not turn things around over the next few weeks. Lugo could be a great addition to the Dodgers’ rotation. Adding him could allow them to shut Sasaki down if they want him to spend the rest of the year on his recovery.

A rotation of Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Lugo, Snell, Clayton Kershaw and Glasnow would be able to dominate in October. However, the Dodgers’ biggest question will be if they can get their arms healthy at the same time. If Glasnow or Snell suffer a setback, the urgency to acquire a starting pitcher would rise.
