The New York Yankees have overcome various injuries to star players that plagued them earlier this season. They lost Gerrit Cole to Tommy John surgery and began the year without Giancarlo Stanton and Luis Gil.
However, they are 48-36, which is good for the lead in the American League East and the third-best record in the Junior Circuit. They will likely be buyers come July 31.
Third base is an area of need for the Yankees as they try to boost their roster for a stretch run. There will be several options available.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com predicts that Yoan Moncada could be an option.
“New York’s third basemen rank near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories, and that’s with Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s solid numbers during his time at the hot corner,” Feinsand wrote.
“Adding a third baseman such as Colorado’s Ryan McMahon, Arizona’s Eugenio Suárez or Yoán Moncada of the Angels would bolster the Yankees’ already impressive lineup.”

Moncada has struggled a bit with the Los Angeles Angels. He is hitting .237 but has a .336 on-base percentage, a .505 slugging percentage and an .841 OPS with six home runs and 19 RBI.
He could give the Yankees the boost they need at third base if added. The Yankees had their eye on him when he was an international free agent out of Cuba back in 2015.
He ultimately signed with the Boston Red Sox and has since played for the Angels and Chicago White Sox.
The 30-year-old brings power from both sides of the plate and could benefit from the hitter-friendly dimensions of Yankee Stadium.
It will be interesting to see if the Yankees target him in the coming weeks.
