The Minnesota Vikings might have uncovered a hidden gem in the 2025 NFL Draft — and at least one NFL analyst thinks so.
Brandon Austin of PFSN predicts that the Vikings’ third-round pick and former Maryland standout Tai Felton is set for a strong rookie season. This wouldn’t be the first time Minnesota has found success at wide receiver in the draft.
In his “Rookie to Watch at Minicamp” article for every NFL team, Austin highlighted Felton as someone to keep an eye on.
“Felton brings a burst of speed and playmaking ability to the Vikings’ receiving corps,” Austin said. “He had a breakout season in 2024, showing off his deep speed and polished route-running. He even made history by starting the season with four straight 100-yard games — a testament to his consistency and explosiveness.”
Felton’s numbers caught plenty of attention, and many believe his game is ready to make the jump to the NFL right away.
“While he has a slender build and isn’t known for physical battles, Felton consistently finds separation and makes plays after the catch,” Austin added. “He’s more than just a vertical threat and he can move the chains and create chunk plays in the short-to-intermediate game.”

Felton is expected to have a role early on, as he’ll be competing for the WR3 spot in training camp against former Michigan State receiver Jalen Nailor. Competition isn’t new for Felton — he’s been facing tough challenges his whole life.
Even with Maryland’s disappointing season, Felton was the lone bright spot. He finished second in Big Ten receiving yards at his position, trailing only Ohio State’s freshman phenom, Jeremiah Smith.
Felton caught 96 passes last year for 1,124 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging nearly 12 yards every time he touched the ball.
With Jordan Addison possibly facing a multi-game suspension over DUI charges in California, Felton’s window to prove himself could open even sooner. If he takes advantage of that chance, he’s got the talent to make an immediate impact and quickly become one of the Vikings’ breakout players in 2025.
