Jets predicted to land 31-year-old wide receiver as Garrett Wilson running mate

The New York Jets had one of the worst offenses in the NFL last year, and things don’t figure to get much better in 2025.

Outside of Garrett Wilson, the team doesn’t have another noteworthy receiver. As of now, the other two starting wideouts on the Jets’ depth chart are Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds, both of whom combined for only 724 receiving yards in 2024.

If the Jets want to have a better offense in 2025 and make life easier for their new starting quarterback, Justin Fields, they need to add a playmaker.

Logan Ulrich of NFL Trade Rumor believes the Jets should make their offense more explosive by signing free agent Amari Cooper.

“On paper, the Jets have one of the weakest receiving corps in the league,” Ulrich said. “It remains to be seen if the Jets would consider Cooper a fit in the offense, particularly as a run blocker which is a big part of the appeal in New York’s eyes for Reynolds and Lazard. Still, he’s more established and proven than anyone on the roster outside of Wilson.”

Cooper was traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Buffalo Bills in the middle of the 2024 season, causing his production to dip.

Although Cooper had a down year with 547 receiving yards, he proved he can still be productive in the previous two years with the Browns, posting 1,250 yards in 2023 and 1,160 yards in 2022.

The Jets are still sitting on just under $30 million in cap space, so money would not be an issue. The question holding the Jets back is whether they think Cooper would be a good fit in what should be a run-heavy offense.

The Jets haven’t made it to the playoffs since the 2010 season. If they want to start trending upward and make their way back to the playoffs, adding a dynamic wide receiver like Cooper would be a great start.
