There was no shortage of speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future this summer as he weighed up his options in Saudi Arabia.
The Portuguese icon was linked with several teams from all over the world, but he’s since move to crushed those rumours, by signing a new contract at Al Nassr until June 2027.
Ronaldo was linked with multiple clubs competing in the FIFA Club World Cup with fans expectant over seeing him at the tournament in the United States.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino added fuel to the fire when he revealed discussions took place over Ronaldo playing at the Club World Cup.
However, things took a drastic turn when Ronaldo decided to stay in Riyadh, via a bumper contract.
He also advocated for the appointment of his compatriot Jorge Jesus, who replaces Stefano Pioli at the helm at Al Nassr, in the hope of launching a title challenge in 2025/26.

“I had some offers to play in the [Club] World Cup but it didn’t make sense as I prefer to have a good rest, a good preparation, because this season will be very long as it’s the World Cup season at the end of the year,” Ronaldo said in a video interview posted on Al Nassr’s YouTube channel.
“I want to be ready not only for Al Nassr but also for the national team. This is why I decided to play the last game of the season in the Nations League final and not listen to anything.
“And of course, to be at this club, which I love.”
What did Ronaldo say about his Al Nassr future?
Even at 40, Ronaldo just can’t stop scoring goals. He played a big role in helping Portugal win the 2025 Nations League in Germany last month.
He scored in the final against Spain, which finished 2-2, before Roberto Martinez’s charges went on to win on penalties.
Ronaldo won the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023, but he’s yet to guide his team to the Saudi Pro League crown or the Asian Champions League title.
“My goal is always to win something important for Al Nassr. I still believe in that. This is why I renewed for two years more because I believe I will be a champion in Saudi Arabia.”
Ronaldo has already netted 93 goals in 105 appearances across all competitions for Al Nassr, and with the 1000-goal milestone in his mind, he will look to continue his scoring spree.
