The Boston Red Sox traded away their franchise player recently. However, MLB insider Robert Murray suggested they sign a new superstar to be the face of their team in free agency.
Kyle Tucker figures to be the prize of the offseason. Spotrac projects him to earn a $525 million deal in the offseason. He has been a great player for the Chicago Cubs this offseason, but he figures to have many suitors in free agency. The Red Sox saved over $250 million by trading Devers, and could use that money to go and get Tucker
“Having Anthony, Wilyer Abreu and Tucker patrolling the outfield long-term would give the Red Sox one of the best trios in baseball,” wrote Murray. “It would establish trust that the franchise is serious about winning and putting the best product on the field after trading Devers and Mookie Betts within the last five seasons. And it would put the Red Sox firmly within the World Series discussion once again.”
Tucker is a three-time All-Star, a Silver Slugger and a Gold Glover. He is slashing .283/.391/.520 this year. He has 16 home runs and has hit 128 home runs in the last five years.
Adding Tucker would allow the Red Sox to move Ceddanne Rafaela to the infield and potentially trade Jarren Duran. Trading Duran would allow the Red Sox to potentially acquire some pitching in exchange.

“Over the next few months, the connections between Tucker and the Red Sox will only grow louder,” wrote Murray/ “Whether it happens is ultimately up to Breslow and team owner John Henry and while that will surely have some people skeptical, it’s a fit that makes too much sense for both not to seriously explore.”
