Dodgers Max Muncy makes history not done since Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx in 1938

The Los Angeles Dodgers are tied with the Detroit Tigers for the best record in baseball. Max Muncy has been on a tear recently, and just did something that hasn’t been done since 1938.

Muncy started wearing glasses recently, and he has seen a turnaround in his offensive production. He was slashing .180/.295/.236 through April 29. Since April 30, when he reportedly started wearing glasses to help with an astigmatism, he has been slashing .291/.419/.583 with 12 home runs. However, since May 31, he has made some history.

According to OptaSTATS, Muncy has three games with six-plus RBIs, three multi-homer games, two games with seven-plus RBIs, two games with multiple three-plus run homers and two grand slams. The only other player to achieve those things over the course of an entire season was Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx in 1938. Muncy has done all of that in less than a month.

Foxx won MVP in 1938. It was his third and final MVP Award. Foxx was a nine-time All-Star, two-time batting champion and Triple Crown winner. Muncy will need a miracle to win MVP, but his turnaround has been great for the Dodgers as a whole.

Muncy is a two-time All-Star and is in his 10th big league season. It is his eighth season as a Dodger and he has won two World Series with the team. He has put himself in some elite company after his recent hot streak. Muncy, 34, will be a free agent after the season and is making a case for the Dodgers to keep him around.

If Muncy had continued to struggle, the Dodgers may have started to shuffle their infield to get him out of the lineup. However, his great play keeps the Dodgers from needing a third baseman at the trade deadline.
