The Boston Celtics entered the offseason hoping to make some big moves, and they’ve delivered thus far.
Over the past week, the Celtics have traded Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis in a couple of deals to help their financial situation going into next season. As Boston has looked to avoid the second apron in recent days, it must now shift its focus to building a team capable of competing for a championship again.
The Holiday and Porzingis deals helped the Celtics take care of most of their financial problems, which could give the team some flexibility moving forward. That potential flexibility includes keeping some role players that had previously been viewed as trade chips, including Sam Hauser.
Next season, Hauser will begin the first year of a four-year, $45 million extension. While that price tag for his shooting ability is a value deal, he might have cost the Celtics much more in luxury tax had Boston not made its recent trades.
So, with that in mind, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported on Saturday that there has been minimal trade buzz about the sharpshooter. Fischer also noted that it is presumed the Celtics see him as an integral piece of next year’s team, as he is a 6-foot-8 forward who could be crucial to Boston surviving without Jayson Tatum.

While there is still some buzz about Anfernee Simons getting dealt again, it appears that Hauser will be in TD Garden, knocking down outside shots again next season. As a career 42% 3-point shooter, Hauser will need to continue his great shooting, likely on the highest volume of his career.
