Recent shakeup could help Mavericks fans’ Nico Harrison wish come true

The Dallas Mavericks have been in a strange position for the past few months, but things could become normal again with a big move.

The story of the NBA’s regular season was the Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The shocking move was immediately regarded as one of the worst trades in sports history, and Mavericks GM Nico Harrison was the mastermind.

Since dealing Doncic to Los Angeles, Harrison has been on the receiving end of a two-word message from Mavericks fans. “Fire Nico” has been chanted repeatedly and posted online daily since the trade was made, with the front half sometimes being replaced with a different four-letter f-word. The chant was even present at the team’s draft watch party just a few days ago.

While the Mavericks have stuck with their general manager through all the turmoil, it might finally be time to move on. Considering how the fans have felt in recent months, simply firing Harrison would be a home run move to bring the fan base back in, but Dallas could also make a home run hire.

On Friday, the Toronto Raptors fired Masai Ujiri after over a decade with the franchise. Of course, Ujiri was the leading voice in building the Raptors’ 2019 championship team and will now arguably be the biggest free agent available this summer.

Despite Harrison’s unfavorable standing with fans, he has still built a roster capable of competing in a tough Western Conference. However, replacing him with Ujiri could help the team make some finishing touches, and of course, get fans much more excited about the future of the franchise.

Ujiri is a championship-winning architect and could bring his valuable experience to Dallas. While it wouldn’t be a cheap move to get Ujiri, it could be worth every penny.
