Kayvon Thibdodeaux heads to NFC North in latest blockbuster trade proposal

The New York Giants are in a good spot as the 2025 NFL season inches closer. They’re sitting in the catbird seat at edge rusher, armed with three blue-chip players at one of the most valuable positions in the league.

Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux would each be headliners on most defenses in the NFL, so the fact that all three are on one roster is downright ridiculous.

It’s also why the Giants are consistently mentioned as a potential trade partner for teams searching for pass-rush help, which was the case in a recent trade pitch involving the Chicago Bears.

I took to Twitter and asked Bears fans if they’d want Chicago to trade for Thibodeaux, and the answer was a convincing yes. As a result, a hypothetical trade involving Chicago sending its 2026 second-round pick to the Giants was proposed, and it makes a great deal of sense.

First, the odds that New York will keep Thibodeaux around beyond the 2025 season are low. Yeah, they technically have control over his rights through 2026, but I highly doubt they’ll invest that much of their salary cap into one position group. Plus, Burns and Carter have higher upside moving forward.

Second, if the Giants can add a second-round pick for Thibodeaux, which this hypothetical scenario proposes, it would represent a solid return on investment.

Indeed, Big Blue used the fifth-overall pick in the 2022 draft on the former Oregon Duck, and they did get an 11.5-sack season from him in 2023. But the time to pay him a massive second contract is almost here, and the New York Giants are uniquely positioned to say ‘no thanks.’

Rather than lose him for nothing, a top-64 pick would be pretty strong value. It’s likely to be the best offer they’ll get, too. I know there will be a collection of Giants fans who think Thibodeaux can pull a first-round pick on the trade market, but that’s nonsense. He hasn’t done enough in his first three seasons for a team to pay that steep of a price for him, especially not with that big contract right around the corner.
