The Pittsburgh Steelers figure to be in the quarterback market once again in 2026.
With Aaron Rodgers on a one-year deal and likely to retire after the 2025 season, the Steelers will have to figure out a replacement plan for the future Hall of Famer.
Though Pittsburgh could look to draft a quarterback or give Will Howard a shot to prove he’s the long-term answer in 2026, ESPN’s Brooke Pryor believes the Steelers could inquire about the availability of Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence next offseason.
“Trading for a starting quarterback is rarer these days, and expensive, but not impossible. Trevor Lawrence could be worth an inquiry,” Pryor wrote.
Lawrence is under contract with the Jaguars in 2031. However, the 2022 No.1 overall pick could be entering a make-or-break year with the franchise in 2025.
Though he has shown flashes of excellent play, Lawrence has been unable to put together consistent play for a full 17-game slate. The 25-year-old has taken Jacksonville to the playoffs just one time in his first four seasons, which came in 2023.
The Jaguars could be willing to listen to offers for Lawrence in the future if he doesn’t take the next step in 2025. The Steelers, who haven’t been able to find a long-term replacement for Ben Roethlisberger since his retirement in 2022, would be a logical landing spot for Lawrence.
The Clemson product could flourish with Mike Tomlin as head coach and in an offense with D.K. Metcalf as his No.1 receiver.
Lawrence will likely be in Jacksonville as the franchise’s starting signal-caller for the foreseeable future. However, crazier things have happened in the NFL, so Pittsburgh should keep an eye on the 2023 Pro Bowler’s situation with the Jaguars.
