Pep Guardiola thrilled as Man City return to ‘who we were’

Manchester City bagged a massive 5-2 win against Juventus in their last group stage match of the Club World Cup on June 26 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

Following a disappointing run in the 2024/25 campaign, which ended in a third-place Premier League finish and no major trophies, Man City have made prominent additions to their squad ahead of the Club World Cup and the upcoming season.

Man City have secured victories in all three group stage matches of the competition and earned their deserved spot in the Round of 16.

Speaking after the win against Juventus, Man City head coach Pep Guardiola expressed being content with his squad’s display after a long time.

“A long, long time ago, [since] we made a performance like today we have done. With and without the ball, the players were committed. We talked about what we have to improve to be who were in the past. We’re happy to finish first against a top side and we are waiting on our opponent.”

When asked if this victory marks Man City’s return to winning ways, the Catalan manager candidly mentioned that it was ‘just one game,’ but it adds to the squad’s ‘belief.’

“Not back, it’s just one game but today more than anything the players felt again what we have to do to be a good team. They played and they knew it. Belief always comes from your performances, not from the past,” he responded.

Man City will now face Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal in the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup on June 30 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
