$78 million Chiefs superstar predicted to dump KC to join Bears

The Kansas City Chiefs lost Super Bowl LIX 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles and could be losing some key players from their three consecutive Super Bowl berths in free agency.

Trey Smith headlines the Chiefs list of free agents. He will be a priority for the Chiefs, and they can offer him the chance to be a contender every year, but plenty of needy teams may outbid the Chiefs financially. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox predicted Smith would leave the Chiefs to join the Chicago Bears.

“Within the last year, Robert Hunt, Chris Lindstrom and Landon Dickerson all received deals worth at least $20 million annually,” wrote Knox. “Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith can expect to see lucrative offers in free agency. He’s a star in the running game, didn’t allow a sack in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus, and will turn just 26 in June. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, “several teams have him as the top overall free agent.”

Spotrac projects Smith to earn a four-year, $78 million deal in free agency. Caleb Williams was the most-sacked quarterback in the league last year. Adding Smith will go a long way in fixing that. Additionally, new head coach Ben Johnson had a very run-heavy offense in Detroit and adding Smith would help recreate that as well.

Smith made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career last season. He is set to cash in as a free agent and the Bears are desperate to turn their franchise around.
