76ers surprisingly acquire slumping $47 million guard in proposed trade with Timberwolves

The Philadelphia 76ers are not necessarily out of the woods following their poor start, but at least this season hasn’t proven to be a complete waste.

At 11-17, the Sixers are the No. 12 seed, mere inches from being in the Play-In Tournament. While they could keep their current core intact, getting some upgrades in their rotation could vault them back up to a surefire playoff contender. It would all depend on who they get.

If they want someone who could fill in many holes for them, Philly Sixers Galaxy proposed the following trade between the Sixers and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Sixers receive: Donte DiVincenzo

Timberwolves receive: Caleb Martin, Eric Gordon, 2026 first-round pick (Thunder, Clippers, or Rockets), 2028 Clippers first-round pick

DiVincenzo has been floated as a Sixers trade target before. If the Timberwolves planned to get rid of him, the Sixers would have to give up a good haul.

DiVincenzo has not had a great season

This would be a no-brainer for the Sixers if DiVincenzo played like he did last season with the New York Knicks. Then, he averaged 15.5 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 44.3% and 40.1% from three.

He hasn’t replicated the same success with the Timberwolves this season. He’s averaging 9 points and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 37% and 33.5% from three.

For that reason, DiVincenzo could be available. While his value might not be what it was when the Timberwolves first acquired him, it would still be high enough for a team to give up multiple first-round picks for him.

Because DiVincenzo is inexpensive, it wouldn’t take too many salaries to acquire him, but for that same reason, it may take more assets to get him.

The Timberwolves may also not want to trade him for assets but more for an upgrade despite his struggles. That’s not something the Sixers can offer.
