Most of the talk surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason has centered on whether the club can retain Quentin Grimes.
While a possible deal to retain Grimes remains to be seen. The 76ers may need to make other roster moves to free up financial flexibility, possibly putting two pivotal role players on the trading block.
According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the 76ers are exploring the idea of trading Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre Jr.
“There has been buzz all summer long about the Sixers looking to potentially move one of, if not both, Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre,” Fischer said.”If they are able to find a deal for one of those two guys as we get closer to camp, that would open up some more wiggle room for Philadelphia to be able to pay [Quentin] Grimes a little bit more.”
Fischer added that the situation remains “undetermined.”
Clearing up cap space to retain Grimes might be ideal for a 76ers team looking to get back to the top of the Eastern Conference. Grimes joined the 76ers via trade from the Dallas Mavericks in February. He played superbly during the final stretch last season. Grimes averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 28 games.
Drummond, a veteran, has been and proved to be a reliable rebounder and interior presence man, while Oubre has shown to be an effective two-way wing since joining the 76ers back in 2023.
Parting ways with both players would see the 76ers lose valuable experience, but it would also create opportunities for younger talent to step into larger roles as the team continues to navigate the offseason.
