The Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up for a pivotal offseason, one that includes holding the No.3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft.
With the No. 3 pick in their possession, along with getting Joel Embiid, Jared McCann, and Paul George back from injury, the 76ers are in a prime position to continue adding to what is already a stacked team.
Nicolas Kyle Pring of FanSided suggested that the 76ers make a trade for New Orleans Pelicans wing Herb Jones.
“If so, the 76ers should already keep a close eye on Herb Jones. One of the league’s premier defenders, he would be a dream fit in Philly as a defensive siege to support and balance out the team’s litany of scorers,” Pring wrote.
He added, “The disruptive Jones should be able to easily thrive as a catalyst on the defensive end within Nick Nurse’s switchy schemes on D. Even better, his offensive miscues should get masked when playing a corollary role, allowing him to fully showcase his skills in a role that fits him to a tee.”
Yahoo Sports Kevin O’Connor reported that the New Orleans Pelicans do not consider anyone on their roster untouchable, opening the door for potential trades.
With that in mind, the 76ers can make a significant addition by acquiring Herb Jones, as he has proven to be a top perimeter defender with the ability to guard multiple positions and create chaos on the perimeter. His style of play would fit seamlessly into Nick Nurse’s defensive system.
Jones is currently in the middle of a four-year, $54 million contract with the Pelicans, which runs through the 2026-27 season.
The Pelicans could be looking for a fresh start after an abysmal 21-61 season, indicating that it may be time to hit the reset button.
With several draft picks and trade assets, the 76ers could potentially go in several different directions this offseason. Bringing in a stud like Jones would only make them better.
