The Philadelphia 76ers are running out of time to make a playoff push. With Joel Embiid suffering yet another injury, the Sixers may search for any help to stay afloat.
It’s difficult to replace the production of the former MVP, but the Sixers can try to get more help around the edges.
ClutchPoints proposed a three-way trade between the Sixers, New Orleans Pelicans, and San Antonio Spurs that could get Philadelphia some help. The details are as follows.
Sixers get: Jose Alvarado
Pelicans get: Reggie Jackson, 2025 second-round pick (more favorable between Spurs and Chicago Bulls), 2031 second-round pick (more favorable between Sixers and Dallas Mavericks
Spurs get: 2027 Milwaukee Bucks second-round pick, 2031 second-round pick (less favorable between less favorable between Bucks and Mavericks)
Spurs receive: 2027 Milwaukee Bucks second-round pick, 2031 second-round pick (least favorable of 76ers and Mavericks)
The Pelicans have also not had a great season. Like the Sixers, it’s been because they’ve been ravaged with injuries. Because of how far they’ve fallen, they may trade players like Alvarado to secure their spot as a tanker.
Alvarado is owed nearly $2 million and will enter the first year of a two-year, $9 million contract. He is a productive player on a cheap contract for which the Sixers could find plenty of use.
Alvarado would be a solid Jared McCain replacement
Ever since McCain went down with a season-ending meniscus tear, plenty of players have been floated as his replacement.
Alvarado doesn’t do everything McCain does but fills that hole as a backup guard. He is a better player than Jackson, Eric Gordon, or Kyle Lowry, primarily because of his youth.
The Sixers are at a crossroads right now. No one knows if they plan to try to get more help or if they will try tanking. If they decide on the former, Alvarado is a realistic trade target.
