76ers predicted to add $16 million slumping sharpshooter via trade with Pistons

The Philadelphia 76ers need more floor spacing, though how they get it is the real question. They can offer KJ Martin and his team-friendly contract, but they can use other avenues to improve their shooting.

There aren’t that many NBA players who fix this problem by themselves, but a combination of players could fix this issue, especially if they can be had for cheap.

Bleacher Report floated one particular player who could fix this issue: Detroit Pistons forward Simone Fontecchio. The Italian wing has not had the best season, which is why there would be some hesitance to acquire him. Still, his struggles can be attributed to a lesser role following the addition of Sixers alum Tobias Harris and the development of Ausar Thompson.

In a bigger role with the Pistons last season, Fontecchio shot 42.6% from three, proving himself to be a sharpshooter with size. With Harris in the rotation and Thompson finding his footing in the NBA, Fontecchio’s time in Detroit might end soon.

If there’s a time to get him, it’s now

Because Fontecchio hasn’t factored as much into the Pistons’ rotation, which has hurt his numbers, the Sixers could acquire him while his value is low.

Better yet, it may not take Martin’s contract to get him. It would only take Eric Gordon, Kyle Lowry, Adem Bona and Reggie Jackson to match the salaries for Fontecchio in a trade.

For good reason, Fontecchio has been floated as a Sixers target before. The team needs more shooting, and getting a shooter with size only makes it better.

He wouldn’t solve all their problems, but he would be a good start. The Sixers are starting to pick themselves up, so adding Fontecchio is a good way to strike while the iron is still hot.

The only problem is that the Pistons have aspirations to make the playoffs, so it may not be the smartest move to help a team with similar goals in mind.
