The Philadelphia 76ers’ Big Three of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George greatly failed to meet expectations in their first year together.
While they do not hold equal responsibility for the lack of success, each played a part in it. Embiid simply could not stay on the floor, Maxey struggled when called upon to be the No. 1 option, and George did not live up to the lucrative contract the Sixers inked him to.
This has led some to believe Philadelphia’s front office could move on from either Embiid or George this offseason, but Maxey recently hinted that at least the former may be staying put.
EnterPRIZE Sports spoke with Maxey at the Kentucky Derby, asking, “Can you give me a little bit about the future, can you give us some promise about the future of the Sixers?”
“I think the biggest thing is one, we have Joel Embiid on our team,” Maxey said. “Whenever you have a former MVP of that caliber, I think you always have a chance. We have a promising future, and we’re going to try and go out there and do the best we can.”
Is it possible Maxey is simply being kept in the dark about a looming trade? Yes. However, it’s far more likely Embiid, Maxey, and George met with the 76ers’ front office to discuss the future of the organization after being eliminated from postseason contention.

If Embiid is truly staying in Philadelphia at least for the near future like Maxey hinted, then his health, along with George’s, is a priority for the summer.
