The NBA Summer League doesn’t officially start until Thursday, but some teams have already been playing in West Coast leagues before the Las Vegas Summer League.
The 76ers were one of the teams in action, but unfortunately, their top rookie got hit with an injury update on Wednesday.
What is the injury update?
HoopsHype’s writer, Michael Scotto, reported, “76ers No. 3 pick VJ Edgecombe has been diagnosed with a left thumb sprain.”
This means that he will miss the 76ers’ Las Vegas Summer League opener on Thursday.
The injury doesn’t seem to be a huge concern, as Scotto reported, “He’s participating in on-court workouts during his absence and is working closely with the team’s medical staff. He will be re-evaluated on Saturday.”

Of course, Summer League isn’t ‘do or die’ for teams, so they often are cautious in these situations, especially with new/young highly drafted rookies.
Edgecombe had a quality debut on Jul. 5, with a statline of 28 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks against the Jazz.
The 76ers finished 13th in the East in the 2024-25 NBA season and selected Edgecombe with the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
